During January 2009, Brigyn performed at a Plygain
service at the church of Llanfiangel-yng-Ngwynfa
alongside other contemporary Welsh folk groups,
and traditional Plygain singers from Montgomeryshire.
The alternative event was organised by Rhys
Mwyn - one of the most controversial and influential
figures of the contemporary Welsh language music
scene - who is originally from Llanfair Caereinion.
"This project has something to do with
me looking at my roots, no doubt!" says
Rhys. "I was listening to the Sex Pistols
when my contemporaries were singing Plygain
carols."
Brigyn collaborated with Gareth Bonello (The
Gentle Good) for the project - and the tracks
that were recorded at the service were released
on this album during 2010.
